Armed robbery survival skills

A robbery is the crime of taking, or attempting to take anything of value by force, threat of force, or by use of fear. Armed robbery is a serious crime and can permanently traumatize its victims both physically and psychologically. An armed robbery is typically motivated by the desire to obtain money which is then utilized for other forms of illegal activities or with the intention of boosting the status of the offender within their peer groups. Whatever the motivation, the act is classified as a violent crime as this can lead to serious injury or death to its victims.

The Armed Robbery Survival Skills training program is aimed at the skills and techniques required to survive a violent confrontation and looks at the principles required to cope with the pre and post incident.

This one-day program is divided into eight interactive sessions and is supported by a learner manual, video presentations and three assessment tools, namely exercise, role play and knowledge-based questionnaires.

An alternative to the one-day training program is an on-line webinar program which will touch on the core principles of the program. This is a 55–60-minute interactive presentation with a Q&A session available to allow full participation with the facilitator, answering the difficult questions not often posed in a classroom type environment. This facilitation is often utilized as a pre-empt to the full day training program due to its time saving structure yet presenting a similar message.

The one-day program is SASSETA accredited and carries a 12-month certification upon completion.
